Hatha yoga is more than just a physical practice—it is a gateway to the deeper teachings of yoga, blending movement, breath, and mindfulness to cultivate balance and harmony in both body and mind. The word "Hatha" translates as "force" or "effort" and is often seen as the union of opposites: "ha" (sun) and "tha" (moon). This balance lies at the heart of the practice, encouraging us to harmonise opposing energies within ourselves.
Key Features of Hatha Yoga
Postures (Asanas):
Focuses on foundational poses, held gently to build strength, flexibility, and awareness.
Encourages mindful movement, allowing you to explore how your body feels in each posture.
Breathwork (Pranayama):
Breath is the bridge between body and mind, with techniques to calm or energise as needed.
Helps to steady the mind and deepen your connection to the present moment.
Mindfulness and Philosophy:
Hatha yoga incorporates the philosophical roots of yoga, encouraging self-reflection, compassion, and non-attachment.
Sessions often include moments for intention-setting, meditation, or contemplation to guide you inward.
Why Choose Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga is ideal for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Its slower, thoughtful approach makes it accessible to all abilities, offering a chance to pause, reset, and explore.

The Deeper Connection
My passion for yoga goes far beyond the poses; I’m deeply inspired by the ancient philosophy that underpins the practice. Yoga is about far more than flexibility—it is a way of living that invites us to connect with our true selves and the world around us. In my teaching, I weave the wisdom of yoga philosophy into our practice, drawing on concepts like the Yamas and Niyamas (ethical guidelines), the connection of breath to prana (life force), and the chakras (energy centres). These teachings offer practical tools for living with greater awareness, kindness, and balance—both on and off the mat.
My Teaching Approach
As a trauma-informed teacher, I honour the individuality of each person’s journey. My classes are grounded in the belief that yoga is for everyone, no matter their experience, ability, or background. I strive to create a safe, inclusive space where you can explore yoga at your own pace, always guided by your inner wisdom.
Yoga is a lifelong practice, one that evolves as we do. For me, it is a continual journey of growth, learning, and connection—and it is my joy to share that journey with others. Together, we can uncover the deeper layers of yoga and its power to bring transformation, healing, and peace.
You can join me for Hatha Yoga at The Pod on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
